MICRO ENTERPRISE FOCAS. It is one of the three (3) thematic focus community assistance schemes (FOCAS) under the Agusan del Sur PACAP Provincial Engagement Strategy. The other two are Agusan Marsh Focas and Indigenous People Focas. The Micro Enterprise (ME) FOCAS was selected to upscale and further develop the existing micro-enterprises in Agusan del Sur. In particular, it aims to increase the productivity of existing micro-enterprises by strengthening entrepreneurial capability, enhancing their production and expanding market.

To retain value added to the communities assisted, the ME Focas focuses assistance on the enterprises that process the existing raw materials. It aims to build entrepreneurial and business management capabilities of the community organizations involved in micro enterprises.

Each FOCAS has a management committee (ME-FMC) and a secretariat. The Agusan del Sur Chamber of Commerce and Industry Foundation Inc. (ADSCCIFI) is the lead organization for the ME FOCAS. As a lead organization it implements the activities and provides the secretariat services to the ME FMC.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

The Australian Agency for International Development (AusAID) manages Australia’s Overseas Aid Program aimed to help developing countries reduce poverty and achieve sustainable development. The program meets this objective through an emphasis on promoting improved governance; assisting countries to access and maximize the benefits from trade and new information technologies; supporting stability through improved delivery of basic services; strengthening regional security; and promoting sustainable resources management.

Planning and delivery of most aid is through bilateral country programs. Country strategies are discussed with recipient governments at annual High Level Consultations, and major decisions are made jointly. Australian aid is provided in 100 percent grant form through a range of programs and projects.

OBJECTIVES:

1. Institutionalize multi-stakeholder collaboration in the management of Agusan Marsh, ensure sustainable use of its resources and conservation of its flora and fauna, & promote the improvement of the socio-economic condition of marsh communities (Agusan Marsh Environmental Management Plan)

2. Improve quality of life of Indigenous Peoples thru increased income generation from agricultural productivity, utilization and rehabilitation of natural resources, and improved access to social services and other government and non-government support programs (Provincial Indigenous People Development Framework)

3. Develop the province as center of agri-industrial Processing in Caraga Region by 2010 (Agusan del Sur Growth Diamond Economic Development Plan)
